Irrelevant Week Celebrates 50 Years of Honoring the NFL's Final Draft Pick

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (April 26, 2025) — As the 2025 NFL Draft concludes, Irrelevant Week proudly marks its 50th anniversary by continuing the cherished tradition of celebrating the final draft pick, affectionately known as "Mr. Irrelevant." This year's honoree is Kobee Minor, a Cornerback from the University of Memphis, selected by the New England Patriots with the 257th pick.

Kobee Minor, a defensive back from the University of Memphis, capped off his college career with a strong 2024 season, tallying 38 tackles, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, six pass breakups, and two forced fumbles in 11 games. His playmaking skills and versatility stood out, helping him shine on the field. At his pre-draft workouts, Minor impressed with a 4.56-second 40-yard dash and a 36-inch vertical jump. When asked about getting drafted and being named Mr. Irrelevant, he explained “by the third day, I started to doubt a little but I kept the faith. God works in mysterious ways. I’m just excited. Soaking it all in.”

Founded in 1976 by former NFL player Paul Salata, Irrelevant Week has evolved into a week-long celebration that not only honors the last draft pick but also raises awareness and funds for youth sports programs. Central to this mission is the partnership with the Orange County Youth Sports Foundation (OCYSF), which provides scholarships and resources to underprivileged youth athletes in the region.

"Reaching our 50th year is a testament to the enduring spirit of celebrating underdogs and supporting our community," said Melanie Salata-Fitch, CEO of Irrelevant Week. "We're thrilled to welcome Kobee to Newport Beach and to continue our commitment to the OCYSF."

Minor will be honored with a series of events in Newport Beach, including the iconic Lowsman Banquet, community engagements, and appearances that highlight the importance of perseverance and community support.
